Daily Bread House

Daily Bread House Inc · Brisbane

Caring is sharing.

We take hot meals, food and essentials out across Brisbane. No cost, no paperwork, no questions asked.

Meal outreach for the community

A hot meal, handed over by someone who is glad to see you.

Daily Bread House is a Christian charity and a registered non-profit, run by volunteers. We cook, we pack, and we go to where people already are: parks, city streets and community spaces around Brisbane.

Our mission is to provide healthy and nutritional meals for those in need. To relieve hunger by offering quality food.

What we do

Three ways we show up, week after week.

Volunteers with loaded wagons on a Brisbane city footpath at night.
After dark

Street outreach

Volunteers walk the city at night with food, drinks and warm gear for people sleeping rough.

Together

Community meals

Tables set, food out, everyone welcome. A proper meal eaten alongside other people.

To carry

Care packs

Backpacks, bedding and everyday essentials for people with nowhere to keep anything.

Our volunteers

None of this happens without people who turn up.

Cooks, drivers, packers, and people who are simply good at talking to strangers. If you have a few hours, we can use them.

Our story

Started by one person who would not walk past.

Daily Bread House was founded by Elsa Roache, and grew out of a plain conviction: people in our own city go hungry, and a faith that stays indoors is not worth a great deal.

It is now a registered non-profit organisation, kept running by volunteers and community partners who cook, pack, drive and hand out food week after week.

Our name comes from the prayer that asks for daily bread. We think that prayer gets answered through people.

Get involved

Three things that keep the tables full.

Volunteer

Cook, pack, drive, serve or pack down. Come once or come every week. We will show you what to do.

Donate food

Fresh produce, bread, pantry staples and bulk ingredients go straight into meals. Talk to us first so nothing is wasted.

Arrange a food donation

Give

Money buys what has not been donated. It is usually the difference between a light meal and a proper one.

Ask how to donate

In their words

Two people, on what it changes.

"I used to worry constantly about where my next meal would come from. Today, Daily Bread House gives me the strength to work, care for my family, and look forward to the future. Thank you for giving me hope."

A guest at one of our meals

"Volunteering at the Daily Bread House has been incredibly rewarding. It's amazing to see the difference we can make in people's lives, one meal at a time."

A Daily Bread House volunteer

Both were given to Daily Bread House and are published without names, because nobody should have to put their name to needing a meal.

At Christmas

Hampers, and a toy box so no child misses out.

Every year the tables get longer. Volunteers pack numbered hampers by hand, and Santa's Toy Box makes sure there is something to open for the kids who come along.

Rows of numbered Christmas hampers wrapped in cellophane, ready to be handed out.

Packed by hand

Numbered, wrapped and matched to families before the day.

Something to open

Donated toys, wrapped and waiting for the children who come with their families.

The day itself

Tables and bread

Hot drinks, fresh bread and a seat for anyone who turns up.

Behind the day

Most of the work happens before anyone sees it.

Kitchens, living rooms and garages full of volunteers sorting, packing and labelling, days ahead of the outreach.

Partner with us

We set up where the community already gathers.

Markets, fetes, church events and community days. If you are running something and want a meal outreach there, or you represent a business with good food heading for the bin, we would like to hear from you.
