That is a normal turnout at Tully Memorial Park, and it is why giving matters. Every plate has to come from somewhere.
Why it matters
Donated food alone does not stretch to 105 plates.
People are generous with food, and we are grateful for all of it. But donations arrive as whatever happened to be surplus that week: a lot of bread one week, very little the next. It rarely balances into a proper meal for the number of people who turn up.
Money is what closes that gap. It buys the things nobody donates and the things we cannot wait for: the protein to go with the bread, gas for the urns, containers and cups, fuel to get the gear to the park, and the extra portions when more people arrive than we planned for.
Food donations decide what is on the table. Money decides whether there is enough of it.
Where it goes
A small charity, run by volunteers.
Daily Bread House Inc is a registered non-profit run by volunteers. Nobody is paid to hand out a meal. That means what you give goes into food and the practical costs of getting it to people, rather than into overheads.
If you ever want to know what a donation paid for, ask us. We are small enough to give you a straight answer.
Give money
Direct transfer is the simplest way.
You can transfer straight to the charity's account. Donations of $2 and over are tax deductible. If you would like a receipt, email us with the date and amount and we will send one.
Regular giving helps most, even if it is small. A little each month lets us plan a service rather than hope for the best.

Give food
What we can actually use.
The food we hand over has to be food we would serve our own families. We take quality items that go straight into meals: fruit, bread, snacks, water, coffee and tea bags. We also take non-perishable food to stock the pantry, which is what lets a household take groceries home rather than only eat once. Please get in touch before dropping anything off, so someone is there to receive it and it goes into cold storage if it needs to.

Our best source. Fresh bread, fruit and vegetables in quantity, handled to commercial standards from the start.
How business donations workClothes, bedding and toiletries
These go out on the table beside the food: clothes, sheets, towels, toiletries and shoes. Clean and in good order, please, and ask us first so we know what is coming.
Households
Sealed, in-date pantry items and fresh produce in good condition. Ask us first rather than guessing, so nothing has to be turned away.
Arrange a drop offFor local business
Bakeries and produce suppliers are our best source of food.
Commercial kitchens, bakeries, grocers, caterers and function venues handle food to a standard from the moment it arrives: temperature controlled, dated, and stored properly. That is exactly what we need, because everything we serve has to be safe and good enough to put in front of a family.
Most days a bakery has quality bread it will not sell tomorrow, and a produce supplier has fruit and vegetables in perfect condition that simply do not meet a retail spec. That is not waste. It is good food with nowhere to go, and it can be a hot meal at Tully Memorial Park the same day.
Daily surplus
Bread, pastries, fruit and vegetables in good condition and within date. One box or a regular run, whatever suits your week.
We collect, cold chain kept
You do not need to deliver anything. A volunteer comes to you, and anything chilled or frozen goes straight into cold storage.
Over ordered or a cancellation
A function that fell through or a delivery that was too large. Call it in and we will collect the same day where we can.
You see where it goes
Your team gets to know their work fed people in their own community, and we are glad to say publicly where the food came from.
The liability question, answered.
The reason most businesses give for binning good food is the fear of being sued if someone becomes unwell. In Queensland that risk is specifically dealt with in legislation.
Under section 38A of the Civil Liability Act 2003 (Qld), a food donor does not incur civil liability for harm resulting from the consumption of donated food, provided the donation is made in good faith for a charitable purpose, the food was safe to consume when you gave it to us, and you tell us about any handling or time limits it needs.
In plain terms: give us food that was fine when it left you, tell us if it needs to stay cold or be eaten today, and the law is on your side.

The standard we hold to
Everything we serve has to be safe and fit to eat. So that we can be certain of it:
- Food must be fit to sell or serve at the moment you hand it over
- Anything chilled or frozen must have stayed at temperature
- Tell us the use-by or best-before date, and any handling it needs
- Keep it exactly as you would for a paying customer until we arrive
We decline food we cannot verify. That is not us being difficult. The people at our tables deserve the same standard as anyone paying for a meal.
Tell us your business name, a contact person and phone, the suburb, what you usually have spare and roughly how much, the best day and time to collect, and whether it needs refrigeration.
Give time
Money and food still need hands.
Every meal is cooked, packed, driven and served by someone who volunteered to do it. If you have a few hours, that is worth as much as a transfer.

Who we are
A registered charity, and easy to check.
Daily Bread House Inc is a registered Australian charity, ABN 19 646 180 424, endorsed as a deductible gift recipient, which is why gifts of $2 and over are deductible. You can confirm all of that on two government registers without taking our word for it.
Costs nothing
Spread the word.
Most of the people who find us were told about us by somebody else. That goes for the households who turn up hungry, the volunteers who show up to cook, and the businesses who send us food. Sharing a post is not a small thing here.
