What we do
Food, taken to where people are.
We do not wait for people to find us. Volunteers cook, pack and travel out to parks, city streets and community spaces across Brisbane.
Where and when
Every Wednesday, 10am to 12pm.
The community lunch runs every Wednesday, 10am to 12pm, in car park 1 at the 1-World Charity Shop, Grand Plaza Drive, Browns Plains, next door to Centrelink.
We also serve at Tully Memorial Park in Logan, 10am to 12pm. At the most recent service there, 105 people came for a meal, which is about normal.
Morning tea and lunch, and alongside the food there are clothes, sheets, towels, toiletries and shoes to take. Everyone is welcome. There is nothing to book and nothing to pay.

On the day
What is on the table.
Turn up and this is what is there. The meal and the bread cost nothing. The pantry is priced to be affordable, because a small charge on groceries is what keeps the pantry stocked for the next service.
Free lunch
BBQ sausages, chicken rolls and salad, served hot. No cost, no questions.
Free bread
Fresh bread on the table to take home with you, as much as we have to give.
The pantry
Affordable groceries, so a household can stock a cupboard rather than only eat once.
The book
Elsa's book is on the table too, $25 a copy. Every dollar goes back into the ministry.
Our programs
Four ways the food gets there.
Community meals
Marquees up, trestle tables laid, urns on. Hot food, fresh bread and a seat for anyone who turns up. No cost and no questions.
Street outreach
Volunteers walk the Brisbane CBD after dark with wagons of food, drinks and warm gear for people sleeping rough.
Care packs
Clothes, sheets, towels, toiletries and shoes on the table beside the food, plus backpacks and bedding for people who have nowhere to keep anything.
Christmas
Numbered hampers packed by hand, and Santa's Toy Box so the children who come along have something to open.
How a day runs
Most of it happens before anyone sees it.
Food is collected and sorted. Meals are cooked in volume. Hampers are packed, labelled and numbered in kitchens and living rooms, sometimes days ahead. Gear is loaded, driven out and set up.
By the time the first person is handed a plate, the work is largely done. That is why volunteers who can pack, drive and lift matter as much as the ones on the tables.
Nobody is assessed, means tested or asked to explain themselves. If you are hungry, that is the only qualification there is.

We set up where the community already gathers.
Markets, fetes, church events and community days. If you are running something and would like a meal outreach there, or you are a bakery, grocer or produce supplier with good food to spare, we would like to hear from you.
